Schedule your Android Auto Sync to maximize battery life with Tasker

Image
One of the way to maximize your Android battery life is to avoid running your Auto Sync all the time. Through out the usage of my Android phone, I have accumulated quite a number of Android apps that uses the Anroid Auto Sync feature to get data into the Android phone. By using Tasker, I can schedule the Auto Sync to run every one hour for 5 minutes. My battery life improved significantly after that. Below is the recipe for the Tasker profile. Profile: Scheduled Auto Sync (12) Time: From 08:00 every 1h Till 23:00 State: Not Wifi Connected [ SSID:* MAC:* IP:* ] State: Mobile Network [ 2G:Off 3G:On 3G - HSPA:On 4G:Off ] Enter: Anon (13) A1: Auto-Sync [ Set:On ] A2: Wait [ MS:0 Seconds:0 Minutes:5 Hours:0 Days:0 ] A3: Auto-Sync [ Set:Off ]

Automatically switch off WiFi if there is no connection for a certain period of time.

Image
This Tasker recipe is to automate the switching off of your WiFi setting when there are no WiFi connection for a period of time. Basically there are 2 profile to set. The first profile to provide a variable to flag if the WiFi is connected or not. The 2nd profile is to start the timer when WiFi is disconnected. After a given period of time if the WiFi does not reconnect, WiFi will be switched off. I created this Tasker recipe to save some battery on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus when the WiFi is on but no connection.  Note:  you cannot import this file into Tasker. Use this as a guide to create your own profiles. Check if WiFi is connected Profile: Check if WiFi is connected State: Wifi Connected [ SSID:* MAC:* IP:* ] Enter: Anon <Set the variable to flag for WiFi connection> A1: Variable Set [ Name:%Wificonn To:On Do Maths:Off Append:Off ] Exit: Anon <Set the variable to flag for no WiFi connection> A1: Variable Set [ Name:%Wificonn To:Off Do Maths:Off Append:Off ]...

The difference between state context and event context in Tasker

Image
I notice that there are similarities between some of the state context methods and event context methods when creating a Tasker profile. I did a little research on various posts from the internet and this is what i can understand. State Context Profile A profile that has state context will be active as long as the context is met. A state context profile will have an enter task and an exit task. When a state context profile becomes active, the enter task will run once and the profile will wait until it becomes inactive back. Once the profile becomes inactive, it will run the exit task. Any settings change through state context profile will restore to the original settings after profile becomes inactive. This happens even without explicitly restore the settings using exit task. An exit task can sometimes run before the same profile’s entry task, if that entry task has a Wait action that delays part of the entry task for so long that the profile becomes inactive. Event Context Profile A p...

Automatically turn on GPS when Waze is running (even when Waze is running in background)

Image
This Tasker profile will automatically turn on my Android device GPS setting whenever Waze is running. I have tweak the Tasker code a little to enable the GPS to remain turned on when Waze is running in the background. This will enable you to receive calls or do other things when Waze is running background without worrying the GPS gets turned off. Apart from Tasker, you will need a rooted Android, "Secure Settings" and "Busy Box" to be installed.  Important notes about Secure Settings In Secure Settings, use Run Command for the action. Use this command to query the state of the Waze app running in the background: cat /proc/$(pgrep com.waze)/oom_adj Check the Output Variable and use "%WAZE_RUN" as the output variable name. Check the Exit Code variable and use "%CMD_EXIT" as the exit code variable name. Note: Make sure you install BusyBox as you will need the "pgrep" program to get the process id of Waze app. Tasker Recipe Profile: Waze ...

How to import Tasker projects, profiles, tasks and scenes

Image
Tasker is a very powerful Android smartphone automation application. Although Tasker can practically do anything you want, you still have to learn how to create the automation. I know many of you out there are just plain lazy or no time to pick up the skill. Many had relied on Tasker users shared automation projects, profiles, tasks or scenes to quickly kick start your automation without hassle. I am sharing most of my Tasker automations in this blog for the benefit of the lazy Tasker people (no offence, i am one of them too). The Tasker automations that i am sharing in this blog are just the exported xml files. Most probably i will not be writing the "step through" like some other websites did but you can download and import the xml files using Tasker. It's easy enough. You can tweak my automation to suite your need. This post will show you how to import Tasker automation xml files into your Tasker application. Download one of the xml files that i shared. Use "save ...

How to export Tasker's Projects, Profiles, Tasks and Scenes

Image
In order to share your Tasker love (projects, profiles, tasks or scenes) to all Tasker users, you will need to export Tasker's projects, profiles, tasks or scenes to xml files. Anyone out there looking for a specific automation for their Android phone could just download and import the xml files into their Tasker Android application and tweak the automation to suite their own use. Somehow i felt that the export and import functions are not that intuitive. I did took a bit of time and Googling to find out how to export and import properly. This post will show you how to access the export function in Tasker. To export your created projects (in my case my project name is "Super"), tap the project name to pop up a menu. To export your created profiles, long tap your profile and tap the menu button (the 3 vertical dots at the top right). The same steps apply for Tasks and scenes. Note: At the time of writing, this how to is based on Tasker 4.0 After you have exported your Task...
