Make a negative film scanner from a shoe box

Image
This is how you can make a home made negative film scanner by using a shoebox and your digital camera. The basic idea here is to use your digital camera (campact, DSLR or even smarphone) to capture the negative to a digital image and use a photo editor to invert the negative image to color image. Before you go and pick up your digital camera and start snapping your old negative films, you will need a light box to illuminate your negative films, and a jig to properly hold your camera in place to avoid shaking when you snap the negative image. Different angles of lighting, different faces

Image
This is how different angles of lighting can change a person face.  This proves how important lighting works in photography. Good photos do not have to be from DSLR only. References, Sources and Credits: http://digg.com/video/its-amazing-how-much-lighting-can-change-your-face

Picasa for Linux

Image
Google decided to stop supporting Picasa running on Linux. They have taken down the download link for the deb install package for Ubuntu Linux OS. I need the deb install package as a pre-requisite to install any latest version of Picasa (Windows installation file) on my Ubuntu Linux OS. If you are not sure what I meant by installing the latest version of Picasa on Ubuntu Linux, please refer to this post for the steps . Luckily I was able to find the deb install package file in the internet and save it for my future re-installation of Picasa on my Ubuntu Linux OS. Here is the download link: picasa_3.0-current_i386.deb

A panorama view of The Bund in Shanghai Most compact cameras will have the panorama photo creating feature built-in and some will have the feature to guide the taking of pre-panoramic photos to be stitch in a PC software tool. A DSLR camera generally takes better quality photos compare to a compact camera, but it does not have the feature to create panorama photos or guide you in taking the pre-panoramic photos. This blog post will show you how to setup your DSLR and take the pre-panoramic photos that to be stitch using a panorama photo stitcher software tool in a PC. Setting Up Switch to Manual mode. Set your aperture to around f5.6 to f8. Set your ISO appropriately according to your lighting. They have released a great Photo organizer + editor + uploader + cool etc ... But! Yes, there's always a but. Picasa developers in Google left Linux users (one of them is me) in high and dry. Being in Linux world, there always workarounds or customizations. Heck! Picasa 3 for Linux offered by Google itself is a workaround for Linux users. A short search(Googling of course) around the internet, i found 3 workaround methods to install Picasa 3.6 in my Linux box. Workarounds in overview: Install Wine and install Picasa 3.6 The problem with this is that you won't get the Gnome integration that Picasa 3 for Linux offers. Install Picasa 3 for Linux and replaced the whole install directory with Picasa 3.6. But of course, you will have too install Wine and in...
